BURNING DESIRES is a performance initiative organised by Edward Thomasson with support from Carolina Onagro. The initiative attempts to create contexts for people with a range of experience to explore their desire to perform. In performances, open workshops, and research projects, song, dance, spoken word, and enactment are used to explore how people try and fail to encounter each other.
The initiative centres around an evolving ensemble of performers including Adrian Quinton, Callum Murphy, Clara Andersson, Penelope Granycome, Simon Tipping, and Yasmine Holness-Dove. The group brings an array of experiences to the work: some have formal training; others sing in community choirs or perform in more informal settings. For many, performing is not their primary profession, but the group shares a commitment to keeping performance as a vital part of their lives. Our first full length work The Whole Routine premiered in 2025 at London Performance Studios and toured to the Kunstverein in Hamburg. Forthcoming presentations of The Whole Routine in 2026 will be announced soon.
BURNING DESIRES also organises more informal open workshops. Working with strangers in a temporary, intimate setting, participants explore their own distinct ways into performance. Slippages, mistakes, and false starts are encouraged. More information about our next workshop here.
